San Shou Martial Arts was started by three friends looking to get a better place to train and share their passion for martial arts with their community!

I met Ty when he was teaching at the Seekonk YMCA 12 years ago.   My friend Arlene told me about him and the great class and I decided to check it out.  I immediately liked him and was very impressed with his skills and teaching ability.  Also the class was great,  I learned a lot and did a lot of sparring which I loved.  After a while Ty stopped teaching at the Y and began running classes in his basement in Providence.

I was also doing Judo at the time at Celtic Judo in Rehoboth with my coach Wayne Dickenson.   A friend I met there named Al Chai also worked out regularly with Ty.  After a few years training in the basement we decided it would be a great thing to start our own school together get a good place to train and share our passion for martial arts.  It took a while to get off the ground but we finally opened Sanshou Fighting and Fitness September 2014.  We later changed the name to San Shou Martial Arts because we weren’t just all about fighting and we wanted parents to be comfortable sending their kids to train with us.

We moved into our present location in January of 2014.  We’re like a big family in our gym,  our kids work out here too!  Tyra and Ariel, Ty’s kids and Max and Jay, two of my three, (Steven prefers basketball!) Train in Sanshou with Ty.

We’re having a lot of fun working out and running classes 6 days per week.  We teach Sanshou, Krav Maga, Wing Chun and we have kids Kung Fu, come check us out!
