Tim kennedy

Tim Kennedy, Green Beret sniper, Army Ranger and retired UFC fighter says “Every time you train, train with the motivation and purpose that you will be the hardest person someone ever tries to kill.”
I like this quote because it reflects a mindset that will help motivate you to train your hardest. The harder we train the better our conditioning and technique will be and the better we will perform, which means we may be more likely to survive. This is similar to our philosophy in training Krav Maga.
“Full power, full aggression” is a familiar refrain from my instructor Gershon Ben Keren. This complements what Tim Kennedy is saying about training hard.
In training for self protection we need to keep in mind that we are all civilized people going about our daily lives trying to do the right thing and not bother anyone. The problem we have is when we are dealing with predators they don’t have the same good manners but they know we have them and they use them against us. We don’t want to offend them or embarrass ourselves so we end up giving in to them or going along hoping we’ll be ok.
We need to drop our self consciousness and realize were dealing with a predator who may kill us so dont hold back! Tim Kennedy and Gershon are both saying “train to be ready to unleash hell on your attacker.”
We are training to make ourselves as hard targets as possible. We understand we may be surprised, overwhelmed and overmatched. We can’t be sure that what we are learning will work. Principals, techniques and training will always work or they won’t work. There are no promises and no guarantees. The only guaranteed techniques are awareness and avoidance.
Tim Kennedy believes if we make ourselves as tough, strong and capable as possible, maybe just maybe we can survive a deadly encounter and live to go home to our family. In Krav Maga physical fitness and aggression are 70% of what we train, with 30% simple techniques. If we are tough and strong and aggressive we stand a chance. Techniques make us more effective but they won’t save us without fitness and aggression.
Today Tim runs Sheepdog Response Company. “The sheepdog exists to protect the vulnerable sheep from the wolves.” Sheepdog Response is in business to train average people to be able to respond to threats weather shootings, terrorist attacks, mugging or home invasion. Sheepdog also offers courses in gun and knife handling and safety, survival skills, bug out skills and preparation as well as communications, land navigation and basic medical care. Pretty comprehensive ! So, basically things you would learn if you trained to become a Green Beret.
Tim’s training philosophy reminds me of our Krav Maga training. Make ourselves harder to kill. React to attacks with extreme violence and don’t stop fighting until we are safe.
By training hard we can improve our physical fitness, our aggressive mindset, exploding on threats, turning the hunter into the hunted. Add simple, easy to learn techniques based on natural flinch reactions. That is our way of making ourselves harder to kill.
Tim Kennedy is inspiring to me because he has accomplished so much in careers in special forces and mixed martial arts competition and he is sharing his knowledge to help average people learn the skills needed to survive in our dangerous world.
Tim’s success makes it clear that his philosophy of training works in real life. He put himself at risk and proved his theory. He is hard to kill.
