Winston Churchill
I’m Bart Axelrod, Krav Maga instructor at EP Martial Arts in East Providence RI and a paramedic in the Boston area. I like inspirational quotes. Here’s one that made an impression on me;
“Never give in – never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy”.
I like this quote because it reminds me to hang in against difficult challenges. I especially like how he says “never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy”’.
This quote is all about self defense. It was written about England standing up to Nazi Germany, but to me it’s about standing up and not being pushed around. If someone is bigger than you and aggressive does that mean you will let them control you? What if you are trained and in great condition and what if they are over confident and think you will be easy to take advantage of??
An example is any person that is being forced to do things against their will and they go along because they don’t think they can fight back.
This quote reminds me of one of the core principles of Krav Maga. Never give up !!! If you keep fighting you can drive off your attacker! You don’t know how tired THEY are!! You were attacked because they thought you wouldn’t fight back! Now they are defending themselves! Even if you get hurt, cut, shot, never stop fighting and fight until your last breath!! You will save your life!!
This quote was from a speech Churchill made in October, 1941, when things were looking very bad for England. Germany and Japan looked like they were going to conquer most of the world in World War 2.
Winston Churchill was a warrior. He was an officer in the military when he was young. When he made this speech he was the prime minister of England and he was old. England was fighting for its life against Nazi Germany, an evil dictatorship trying to destroy them. Germany had built up a huge army and had already defeated English armies in many battles. A lot of people thought they should give up.
Churchill knew they had to keep fighting against Hitler. If the English people gave up they would be made slaves and starved or killed like the people in Europe that were already conquered.
Churchill never gave up. He inspired the world and helped win World War 2.
